My Top Ten Picks for VP on the Harris Ticket

So much news in the last ten days. It seems like a year ago that the assassination attempt was made on former President Trump.

With the gracious announcement from President Biden that he would step down and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, the money has been flowing into her coffers from donors large and small, to the tune of about $100 million in 24 hours. There has been as much political buzz and excitement as I have seen since Mondale’s selection of the first VP candidate, Geraldine Ferraro, in 1984, or Barack Obama’s election in 2008.

It’s important to remember that, at this moment, it’s not a done deal. She still has to win over the delegates and emerge as the nominee at the Democratic Convention in late August. However, it would be hard for anyone to buck the wave of enthusiasm and money that has come with Harris’s rise.

I was away when the big weekend announcement happened, and that’s a good thing. I did not watch any of the news events or read any coverage. And so, that allows me to ponder my own list of possible VP picks for Harris.

Before I present my Top Ten, let me dispense with a couple who have said they are not interested: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland. In the case of the former, she’s doing such a great job in her state that it would be…
