Health Coaching 101: The Basics of Good Living
It’s always a good idea to take stock of our health situation right after Thanksgiving, when we may have a few regrets about how much (and what) we shoveled into our mouths over the long weekend, and before the real Christmas season and all of its sins of gluttony kick in.
But it’s also wise for us to think about it year-round. Americans tend to like things big: their cars, their homes, and their appetites. We can probably rein it in a bit.
Back in 2016, while looking for yet another side hustle, I enrolled in an intensive six-month course to become a certified health coach (and I threw in life coach certification while I was at it). This career did not prove lucrative. These days, the professional health coaches tend to have some kind of medical background to supplement their coaching training and health insurance often covers health coaching — if you use the hospital’s coaches. If you were an indy practitioner trying to get your business up and running, it was a tough climb. After a year, I move on to other lucrative career ideas like music and acting and writing. Haha.
Nevertheless, I have no regrets about taking the course. I learned so much about the human body and health and, more importantly, our habits that prevent us from being the best we can be. The course was worth it just for raising my own awareness…
